Athletes have a unique need for core stability, dynamic flexibility and strength specific to their sport. Therefore, it is critical that athletes train with a structure and focus around balance within all aspects of fitness.
Fortunately, athletes tend to be extremely strong and powerful movers. Unfortunately, their strength can often be built on a foundation of instability and weakness. Simply put, they tend to train for strength and power rather than stability and flexibility.
The model below illustrates the training needs for all people, especially athletes. Here we can see that the foundation of training should incorporate stabilization work and corrective exercises.
