Spine Corrector: Applications for Musculoskeletal Imbalances - Presented by Pat Guyton
Joe Pilates’ creative vision for his work included the entire repertoire on all his equipment and the mat. He named one piece of equipment the Spine Corrector which lives up to the name! It is deceptively simple in design and is a powerful tool for improving core strength and assessing muscle imbalances. The arc provides proprioceptive feedback for thoracic extension and lower core control. Exercise selection can be adapted for those clients who need remedial assistance and those who desire an intense workout. My personal teaching career has shown me that the Spine Corrector often sits in a lonely corner. The focus of this workshop is to offer simple tips on how to match the individual client to the shape of the machine and provide you will insights for teaching success.
Objectives:
1. Learn an effective warm-up routine for all clients.
2. Discern how to teach thoracic articulation over the arc for all levels of ability and special conditions.
3. Discover the therapeutic advantage of the arc for head and neck support in learning Pilates abdominal exercises.
4. Adapt lateral flexion exercises for beginner success and assessment of asymmetrical patterns.
5. Utilize the arc to learn the skills that are essential for progression to the High Barrel.
Why should I take this session?
1. The Spine Corrector is building block of the Pilates system and is interrelated with all other equipment and mat.
2. This session will assist a teacher in gaining confidence to build a comprehensive workout for each individual client.
3. The Spine Corrector will assist a teacher progress client who have poor posture by increasing core strength and body awareness.
