Expecting Balance: Adapting Pregnancy to the Pregnant Body

Description

Pregnancy is a time to preserve function and fitness, a time to focus inwardly and prepare for the rigors of childbirth and caring for a baby after birth. Understand the anatomical and physiological changes that accompany pregnancy in each trimester and build on this theoretical knowledge as you discover how to assess and adapt movement to meet the evolving needs of the pregnant body through shapes in space. Learn how to modify classical exercises and what to add in and leave out. Explore how to safely adjust throughout the pregnancy, supporting your client with thoughtful progression, props, and mindful cueing.

Presenter: Theresa Barone & Anne Lukaska

Objectives:

At the end of the workshop the attendee will:

-Understand the general guidelines and limitations of pregnancy

-Recognize appropriate goals and progressions

-Identify shapes in space and adapt the work to the body

-Showcase creative modifications to teach private Pilates to clients who become pregnant as well as to keep pregnant clients in small groups

Why should I take this workshop? Arm yourself with the knowledge you need to work with clients during this exciting time of their lives. Build on what you know about Pilates, anatomy and movement to teach safe and effective prenatal workouts.
