Knee Know How - Presented by Zoey Trap
The knee is caught between the ground and the hip, and movements from both the foot and the hip reverberate through kinematic chain and the knee. As a hinge joint, the knee is not as stable as the hip and lots can go wrong so let’s explore the relationship between the knee and the foot and how to work with knee alignment, misalignments, and common knee issues. Discover solutions to common and not so common knee problems and get in the know about knees!
Objectives:
At the end of the workshop the instructor will:
- Will be able to employ assessments for functional knee health
- Be able to explain when to 'refer out'
- Exercise strategies to better align the foot, knee, and ankle to decrease knee strain and improve movement
- Discover tools for working to improve knee pain
-Have strategies for working with and improving genu valgum (knock knees) and genu varus (bow legs)
Why should an instructor take this session? As a Pilates professional you are working with a wide variety of students, and knee pain is a common concern. This workshop will prepare you to work with a wide variety of knee considerations. Don't wonder- learn!
Equipment: This workshop will use a wide range of Pilates equipment and props including: sponge balls, dynabands, yoga straps, flexcushions, and ankle weights. You do not need any equipment to participate and observe, you may simply watch and ask questions!
